Chocolate And Beetroot Cake
This weekend I decided it was high time my colleagues at work discovered the amazing taste of Chocolate and Beetroot cake. I know it sounds wrong but it tastes so right!

My first taste of Chocolate and Beetroot cake was in 2006 (blimey six years ago) when I worked as a Catering Assistant at Beningborough Hall & Gardens restaurant. Ah the memories... It may not sound like the most glamourous job, but working at Beningborough Hall was one of the most enjoyable and memorable jobs I've had, mainly due to awesome staff that worked there at the time (you know who you are) and the ice cream kiosk, who doesn't love dishing out nice big portions of Brymor ice cream to hungry visitors?

One perk of the job was lunch, you could choose to have any perishable items sold in the restaurant, which included: sandwiches, soup, cakes and biscuits (not the best for your waistline). Lemon Drizzle Cake, Gluten Free Orange and Almond Cake, Orange Biscuits, Flapjack, Scones and the infamous Chocolate and Beetroot Cake, all made on site, who could resist? Not me, nom nom nom nom nom!

After trying this cake it became my mission to introduce everyone I know to the taste sensation of two unlikely partners in crime, Mr Chocolate & Mrs Beetroot! This particular recipe from Delicious Magazine was a complete success and the questionable pairing produces an amazingly moist cake. Just like carrots in Carrot cake, the Beetroot adds a natural sweetness and moisture to the mix, add in chocolate and et voila! You have the perfect cake!
